LUH's former officer, retired MS fail to return official vehicles.

HYDERABAD -- A former officer and a retired medical superintendent (MS) of the cash-strapped Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) have not returned multiple number of vehicles belonging to the health facility yet, for which they have been unlawfully and unjustifiably receiving free fuel as well.

It was revealed at a meeting of the Hospital Management Board of the LUH, one of Sindh's largest teaching hospitals, here on Thursday.

The agenda of board's meeting included verification and registration of human resource hired on daily wages, rendered services and other contract basis; verification of regularity and punctuality of administration officers, and disciplinary action against absconders; physical verification of all vehicles; appointment of the director administration and procurement etc.

Presided over by Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ikram Din Ujjan, the meeting was attended by LUH MS Dr Shahid Islam Junejo, Sindh Assembly Member Abdul Jabbar Khan and others.

According to LUH MS Dr Junejo, the hospital administration has been asked to verify details of vehicles available in the hospital.

He said the meeting was told that some former officers of the LUH and a retired MS were using many vehicles. He confirmed that the hospital administration would verify whether daily-wage earners were working in the LUH who were hired from time to time.

LUH sources said a former hospital officer was using two Corolla cars and as many hi-roof vehicles while one retired MS was using a hi-roof van. These vehicles were not returned.

'In addition to the two cars and two hi-roof vehicles, two other vehicles were in use of the officer, but those have been returned to the hospital,' said a hospital source.

He said the two vehicles were in use of the officer for some private purposes and added that 100 liters of fuel was issued to the former officer to be used at his residence, but it had now been stopped by the present hospital MS.

Besides, the board also decided to recommend to the Sindh chief minister for the posting of a 'senior cadre officer' as director administration and procurement at the LUH in line with 'The Sindh Teaching Hospitals (Establishment of Management Board) Act...
