Locals protest as polio vaccination volunteer tortures refusing parent.

MARDAN -- A clash happened in Garhi Kapoora area among the citizens and doctors at a hospital of Mardan on Tuesday as a volunteer tortured a person over refusal to administer polio vaccination drops to his children. Local paper reported that a volunteer of the immunisation campaign tortured a citizen in Kot Daulatzai village over refusal to administer vaccine drops to his children. It infuriated the local people and they marched on the basic health unit (BHU) in Battagram area to fight with the doctors. On being informed, local police immediately reached the spot and averted a major clash and brought the situation under control. The local citizens said the vaccination volunteer had no right to torture any person over refusal to cooperate with vaccination team. They said the torture was illegal and it was highly condemnable. A five-day polio vaccination campaign is continuing in Pakistan after emergence of many fresh cases during recent days. As many as 104 polio cases have surfaced in Pakistan this year and 74 of these cases were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
