LHWs to get training in non-communicable diseases.

KARACHI -- Community midwives and lady health workers would be trained under a project in the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and hypertension.

This was decided in a meeting chaired by Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho on Friday.

It was the first steering committee meeting for the Sindh Human Capital Investment: 1000 Days Integrated Health and Population Project.

Health Secretary Zulfiqar Shah, Parliamentary Health Secretary Qasim Siraj Soomro, Director General of Health Dr Juman Bahoto, Programme Director Dr Rehan Baloch, and Deputy Programme Director Faheem Chachar were present in the meeting

The project is launched with the assistance of the World Bank and Islamic Development Bank to improve access to and utilisation of quality of reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health services in harder-to-reach areas, especially for the poor and vulnerable population, with specific target of adolescents and women, in targeted areas of Sindh.
