Law soon to revive student unions: minister.

LAHORE -- Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz has said the provincial assembly will soon pass a law to revive student unions.

He said the student unions had been banned in the past because of their politicisation, which could not be restored. He was addressing the inauguration ceremony of 13th IEEE International Conference on Open Source Systems and Technologies (ICOSST 2019) at University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore.

The minister said the government and students would establish a fund that would be spent on the welfare of students. 'Our government wants to bring about a positive change in the lives of students,' he claimed.

He said a microchip architecture certification programme had been launched for engineers to provide thousands of them with job opportunities in the international market. A guidance centre would also be established this academic year to guide students on careers, scholarships and job placement.

He said China had made great advancements in technology. Now, Pakistan had the opportunity to take advantage of it. 'With China's support, we can move forward in information technology,' he added.
