Landslide-hit KKH cleared to traffic.

MANSEHRA -- Thousands of travellers, including tourists, stranded on the Karakoram Highway and Shogran Road here left for their respective destinations on Saturday after the removal of snow and landslides.

A heavy landslide blocked the KKH in Zairkha Chowki area on Friday evening.

The Frontier Works Organisation cleared the highway with the help of snow-ploughs and other machinery, prompting the people travelling between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan to depart.

Also, hundreds of tourists stranded in Shogran due to heavy snowfall left for their respective destinations after the Kaghan Development Authority cleared snow from the artery linking the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road with Shogran.

The weather in the upper parts of Hazara division remained sunny in the day after a spell of rain and snowfall.

BATON-CHARGE: The Oghi police on Saturday baton-charged the people, who stormed a truck loaded with subsidised flour and threw stones at the driver and policemen.

The driver took the truck to the assistant commissioner's office.

The deputy commissioner later changed the flour distribution schedule and sent that flour to Shergar, Chansar, Nimshir and adjoining areas.

The residents demanded an increase in flour quota to meet their needs.

They complained that the flour was selling for Rs3,200-3,500 per 20kg on the market...
