Landowners demonstrate for payments.

MANSEHRA -- The families affected by the construction of Manchora water reservoir and picnic spot staged a sit-in here on Friday demanding payments for their land and houses acquired for the project.

Shouting slogans, they warned that if dues weren't cleared without delay, they would block the work.

The water project, whose groundbreaking was held earlier in the year, is meant to irrigate a vast land in Agror and Tanawal areas and create a picnic point with modern facilities near Oghi.

Rais Ahmad, manager at the project company, held talks with protesters and assured them that he would speak to the relevant authorities for immediate payments.

Local MPA Nawabzada Fareed announced that he would take up the matter in the provincial assembly.

Deputy commissioner of Mansehra Aurangzeb Haider Khan recently visited Oghi and promised the early payment of dues to these families.
