Kohistan police engage ulema to check honour killings.

MANSEHRA -- The Upper Kohistan police have engaged religious scholars to help check honour killings in the district.

'We have formed a 10-member ulema committee to educate communities that the killing of people in name of honour is a big sin,' Lower Kohistan district police officer Salman Khan told a public forum in Dubair area on Saturday.

The event was jointly organised by the district administration and police. Among speakers were local MPA Abdul Ghaffar, deputy commissioner Sahibzada Najeebullah Khan and ulema.

DPO says culprits will be dealt with strictly

The DPO said the police officials were meeting the residents and religious scholars in far-off areas to sensitise them about honour killings.

He said the people involved in such crimes would be dealt with strictly.

The DPO said Islam didn't allow killings in the name of honour as it considered the killing of a person to be the killing of the entire humanity.

He said honour killings had created a bad image of the region, so the police were committed to eliminating them.
