Kohat's sasta bazaar presents filthy look.

KOHAT -- Vendors have complained that the TMA staff occasionally removes garbage from the sasta bazaar due to which it presents a filthy look. They said the bazaar also lacked drinking water and electricity supply.

Mohibullah, a pushcart vendor, told reporters on Friday that it required daily lifting of garbage, but the tehsil municipal administration staff did this only on Fridays.

Vegetable vendor Gul Agha said they had to fetch water from a far-flung area or the main bazaar to wash and keep their vegetables fresh the whole day. He said the vendors had to clean the bazaar daily in the morning. He said they had to pay daily rent to the TMA if they sold vegetables and fruits on pushcarts.

Gul Agha said two rate lists were issued daily, one for the sasta bazaar and the other for the open market.

He said tomato was sold at Rs50 per kg in the sasta bazaar against Rs60 in the open market. Similarly, onion was available at Rs30 per kg compared to Rs40 per kg in the market.

Shakir, another vendor, said a 20kg flour bag was sold at Rs860 in the sasta bazaar compared to Rs1,300 in the open market.
