KMU lab to continue virus testing after May 15.

PESHAWAR -- The public health reference laboratory at Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar will continue testing for coronavirus after May 15, according to a statement.

The statement issued by KMU Vice-chancellor Prof Arshad Javaid rejected the media reports that samples wouldn't be processed at the laboratory after May 15.

The laboratory at KMU, which conducts 75 per cent of the province-wide Covid-19 tests, has re-iterated its commitment to further scale up the quantity of investigation in the fulfilment of the government's effort to deal with the pandemic effectively.

Prof Javaid said that the varsity had the largest capacity of Covid-19 testing with 1,000 samples processed per day. Under an agreement with the National Institute of Health, Islamabad and the health department, the laboratory had been established to serve the province.

He said that the holistic strategy of all the provincial and federal governments was to increase the capacity of the existing setups as well as start new laboratories as the only testing facility in the province at the start of the pandemic had to rapidly increase its capacity through procurement of equipment, test-kits and hiring of technicians with a Rs10 million grant from the provincial government.
