King's Ransom lifts Karachi Cup.

KARACHI -- Thoroughbred chestnut colt King's Ransom lived up to his billing while coasting to a splendid four lengths victory over bay horse Geo Jalal to lift the Karachi Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting here at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Making his second appearance of the year after over two-and-a-half months, co-favourite King's Ransom displayed awesome form and speed to prevail over four opponents in the four-and-a-half furlongs competition which was also the day's feature event. He clocked 0.564/5 seconds.

Bay horse Waris seized third place further five lengths behind while mare Balochistan Queen completed the quartet another seven lengths away.

The victorious horse was smartly ridden home by Lateef and sent by trainer Ghulam Shabbir II. He belonged to the stables of owner Wajihuddin.

Favourite mare Sweet Golden was on song when she obliged punters while galloping to two lengths victory over chestnut horse Marvellous to clinch the fourth and last race which was also the supporting event. This was Sweet Golden's fifth victory on trot.

She was home in 0.58 seconds.

Mare New Market fell third six lengths away pushing Royal Duke to fourth place among six starters.

Like the cup race, most of the horses were not on job even in the supporting event which is quite evident from their margins of defeat.
