Khyber Girls Medical College to get new dean next month.

PESHAWAR -- Khyber Girls Medical College, the top medical school in the province, is set to get a new dean by mid November.

The position of dean at the college fell vacant two months ago. Sixteen candidates, mostly from the Peshawar-based medical teaching institutions, have applied for the position.

The seat of dean got added importance following an amendment in Medical Teaching Institution Reforms Act, 2018. The amendment empowered the dean to act as chief executive of the MTI-covered institutions, apart from the basic responsibility of looking after the medical education.

The amended law has authorised the dean to have supervisory role over the administrative hierarchy of the medical teaching institution. Formerly, the tenure of dean was three years with renewable three times but after amendment, the position would now be filled for five years through advertisement.

Salary package of the post is usually negotiable but has been around Rs500, 000. Senior consultants have applied for the position. The names of the candidates will be short listed early next month.

The applicants include Prof Mukhtiar Zaman Afridi, Prof Khalid Mehmood, Prof Nasir Orakzai, Prof Iqbal Begum, Prof Gohar Rehman, Prof Mohammad Tahir, Prof Zahid Aman, Prof AH Aamir, Prof Ziaul Haq, Prof Sabina Asif, Prof Alamzeb Durrani and others.
