Kharian-Pindi Motorway Project at premature stage, Senate body told.

ISLAMAB AD -- The Senate Committee on Communications on Monday was informed on Monday that currently Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway Project was at premature stage.

The committee, which met here with Senator Prince Ahmed Umer Ahmedzai in the chair, besides other agenda items, discussed the matter of irregularities in the award of contracts under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) raised by Senator Saifullah Abro.

While discussing the Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway Project, the committee was briefed that the project is at premature stage. The committee was told that three bids were received including FWO, ZKB -SMC- SMADB and TECHNO- MATRACON, out of which the later is at first ranking in terms of financial proposal.

The Chairman Committee while taking briefing on the National Highway (N -25 ) Karachi- Quetta - Chaman project and said that it is a very crucial project from several point of views including road accidents.

He said that it is also very important project from trade point of view and recommended that the project must be prioritised. The committee was briefed that considering its importance NHA has planned dualisation and Rehabilitation of entire N-25 (790 Kms) in different sections.

The dualisation of Khuzdar-Kuchlak section of N-25 extending up to 330 km was also discussed. It was briefed that work on section -I 51 km Chamrok Chowk -Leeva Check Post and Section -II 51 km Jeeva Check Post Surab, has been started. The Chairman Committee inquired on the slow progression on the work when 10 pc mobilisation advance was also allocated.

The committee also took briefing by the DG Post services on the recruitment rules of the department and reasons for not issuing calls letters.
