Karachi wildlife.

THIS refers to the news item 'Urbanisation, pollution wiping out Karachi's wildlife' (Oct 30). The report says that Karachi was once a habitat of house sparrows, parrots, deer, leopards and other wildlife, but all these birds and animals have disappeared because their habitat has been replaced by concrete structures. The population of some unwanted birds like kites and crows has increased.

We can solve this issue if all open spaces, land allocated for parks and areas between flyover ramps have native, fruit-bearing trees.

Kites and crows will also migrate out of the city if garbage, which is their feeding source, is dumped outside the city.

But the problem is that we humans do not respond to the nature as birds and animal do. Take the example of pigeons. They were residents of Karachi before we humans came to this city. They used to live on rocks and hills which we have now occupied to live. So, they made new colonies near our buildings and underneath flyovers for their survival.

Now look at the human response to their survival. We have made only cemented and concrete structures and no green spaces to keep the environment clean for our survival. We have not taken the benefit of...
