Karachi Biennale kicks off from Oct 26.

KARACHI -- The second Karachi Biennale (KB19), which kicks off on Oct 26, will take place at seven venues featuring works of approximately 100 local and international artists. This was announced by CEO of KB19 Niilofur Farrukh at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday evening.

Ms Farrukh said this time round the theme of the event is ecology. All artists have worked on the subject. The vision of the biennale is to share its ideas with the people of the city through art. Ecology is an issue that has to do with every one of us. The seven venues where artworks will be put up are Bagh Ibne Qasim, Karachi Zoo, Alliance Francaise, Indus Valley School gallery, Frere Hall, NED University city campus and VM Art Gallery.

Ms Farrukh said her team wishes to invite people from all walks of life to the programme. Informing the journalists, who hadn't turned up in a big number because a politician was addressing the media at the club at the same time, on a variety of initiatives she said a research paper on legendary artist Shahid Sajjad's artworks influenced by nature will also be presented at the event. She then talked about the five awards to be announced during the biennale, including the Lifetime Achievement Award which will be given to a visual artist who has had 40 years of art practice to his/her credit.
