Joint bank account.

APROPOS the letter 'Joint bank account' (Dec 9). One can empathise with the senior citizen and hope that he/she is out of the predicament, which is similar to the one I underwent some time ago. One thing that perplexes me is why does it take more than a month to resolve such routine matters?

This reminds me of another such case which an acquaintance narrated. He and his wife maintain a joint account as well as a locker at a bank, with 'either or survivor' instructions.

The couple had gone abroad for a prolonged period of time. The husband, who returned early, approached the bank to operate the locker. He was taken aback to learn that the joint account had become inactive, and since the locker was linked with the account, both the account holders would have to visit the bank in person in order to get the...
