JI warns against 'rigging in the name of recounting'.

KARACHI -- The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) on Tuesday warned the Election Commission of Pakistan and the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party that it would not tolerate attempt to change the results of the Jan 15 local government elections in the name of recounting.

Speaking at a press conference at the party's Idara Noor-i-Haq headquarters, JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that the PPP and ECP had been changing the results of the JI-won UCs in a fraudulent manner as the recounting was being carried out despite broken seals and torn bags.

He welcomed the Islamabad High Court's decision to issue a stay order against the recounting in Karachi and said that he would appear before the court on Wednesday (today).

Claiming that the JI had emerged as the single largest party in Karachi in terms of popular votes and number of wards and UCs it bagged, he said that Karachiites expressed trust in the party, which would not neglect them.

He said that the JI had accepted the actual mandate of the PPP in Karachi with open hearts and it expected the same from the PPP.
