JI calls for midterm polls or in-house change.

LAHORE -- Jamaat-i-Islami chief Senator Sirajul Haq doubts Prime Minister Imran Khan's ability to run the government, demanding considering the option of midterm polls or in-house change to steer the country out of crisis.

'Pakistan is facing one crisis after another since the PTI came to power over 15 months ago. The country cannot afford further adventurism,' Sirajul Haq told party's Shoora at Mansoora here on Saturday.

He said the government showed irresponsible attitude over the issue of extension of the army chief's tenure. Parliament, he said, was non-functional and the Election Commission was working without its chief and members from the two provinces. He said the government had crossed all limits of disrespect to courts in defence of retired Gen Pervez Musharraf after the announcement of death sentence to him by a special court.

The JI leader said the rulers had taken no step for the release of Dr Aafia from the US prison and it virtually curbed the freedom of the media.
