Jaranwala doctors, paramedics observe strike against lawyers.

FAISALABAD -- Doctors and paramedics of the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital and the basic health units (BHUs) of Jaranwala observed a full-day strike on Tuesday and did not attend any patient in protest against torture of two doctors by lawyers on Monday.

Doctors told Dawn, on condition of anonymity, they had submitted an application with police for registration of a case against eight people. Instead of registering the case, they said, the police officials had been pressuring them to reconcile with the lawyers. They alleged that the police officials had warned them that the lawyers also formed unity and it would be better for them to forget about the case.

The doctors said the district administration did not contact them after the clash even after launch of their strike.

However, on Tuesday the health and district officials visited them to convince them to withdraw the application for the case.

On Monday, some of the lawyers had come to the hospital and asked a doctor for a medical certificate. At this, both sides exchanged words which led to the clash. Both sides thrashed...
