Jalal Shah visits LUH, slams inadequate health facilities.

HYDERABAD -- Sindh United Party (SUP) president Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, who has recently revived the Sindh Action committee (SAC) - a conglomerate of several nationalist groups which appointed him as the committee's convener - visited the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) and discussed the situation in Hyderabad, arising out of the Covid-19 outbreak, with medical superintendent Dr Mohammed Shahid Islam Junejo.

During the meeting and later speaking to the media, Mr Shah expressed his utter disappointment over the way the Sindh government was handling the affairs.

He criticised 'poor governance' and noted that inadequate healthcare facilities at public sector hospitals were causing great trouble to the general public. He pointed out that while patients of various diseases already stood deprived of proper medical treatment at these hospitals, suspected and confirmed Covid-19 patients visiting them had aggravated the situation.

Mr Shah said the Sindh government claimed to be generous enough to have allocated Rs5.5 billion to contain spread of the virus but it put heavy amounts out of the funds at the disposal of the director general of health services, Indus Hospital, commissioners and deputy commissioners as well as district health officers. 'All these officials must be asked to explain how and where these funds had been utilised as there have been widespread complaints from the general public about no relief having been provided to them.'

He observed that thousands of patients remained without proper healthcare and thousands of families without ration or handouts contrary to the provincial government's claim of having spent the funds on the well-being of patients and welfare of deserving families.
