International bidding ordered for hiring consultant for Ring Road.

RAWALPINDI -- After disqualifying two firms, Punjab government has asked Rawalpindi Ring Road's Project Management Unit (PMU) to go for international bidding to hire a consultant for the third-party validation of the route.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had ordered hiring of a consultant for the third-party validation of the optimal route. During the PTI tenure, two routes were planned for the project.

Last month, two firms submitted their bids to get consultancy for the third-party validation of the route. However, a committee evaluated the technical proposals and disqualified both of them.

After this, a senior district administration official said the consultant selection committee had decided that the Planning and Development Board Punjab would be approached to inform it about the situation and get its consent over two options.

'These two options are: a request for proposals may be re-advertised in national newspapers and, second, to call bidding from international bidders,' he said.

'International firms are necessary for consultancy as local companies have no experience of the third-party validation of a route,' he said.

However, Punjab Planning and Development Department asked the Project Management Unit to go for international bidding.

As per the old alignment planned in 2020, the Rs64 billion worth ring road was 66.3km long from Radio Pakistan Rawat to Thalian and from Thalian to Sangjani.
