Interior ministry tells CDA to draft amendments to restructure authority.

ISLAMABAD -- The Ministry of Interior on Tuesday directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to submit a draft bill proposing amendments to the 1960 CDA Ordinance that would allow for a managing director and non-executive members to be appointed to the authority's board.

In a letter to CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed on Tuesday, the interior ministry said that since cabinet approved the creation of the post of managing director and redefined the CDA board as a non-executive board, 'statutory changes are required in CDA Ordinance before initiation of appointment of MDand CDA board members and other change, if any.'

A Nov 5 cabinet meeting approved the restructuring of the CDA by appointing a nine-member board with five members from the private sector and four ex-officio members and re-designating the post of CDA vice chairman as managing director or chief executive.

Cabinet also approved appointing architects Nayyar Ali Dada and Ali Asghar, former CDA chairman Kamran Lashari, Quaid-i-Azam University Vice Chancellor Mohammad Ali and retired Brig Nadeem Rehmatullah as the five private members of the board subject to the necessary security clearance.
