Interior Minister calls security meeting ahead of PDM protest.

ISLAMABAD -- Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has summoned an important meeting on law and order for tomorrow ahead of scheduled protest of opposition's Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the Red Zone of the capital.

The meeting to be chaired by the interior minister himself will review the security arrangements around ECP office, the Red Zone and the capital, the sources aware of the development told The Nation.

The meeting will discuss the strategy to increase the security around the Red Zone ahead of the protest besides reviewing overall security of the entry and exit points of Islamabad. The meeting will review the necessary security arrangements being made during the protest because the government understands that it is its utmost duty to provide security to ECP being a constitutional body, an official source said.

Chief Commissioner Islamabad Amer Ali Ahmed, Inspector General of Police in Islamabad Qazi Jamil-ur-Rehman and representatives of all law enforcement agencies would participate in the meeting. The police chiefs of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will make sure their presence in the meeting through video links.
