I WAS waiting to be served at a shop selling mutton when a man barged in and demanded that he be given two kilos immediately as he was in a hurry. The shopkeeper obliged and asked him to pay Rs2,600 since the price he was charging for a kilo of mutton was Rs1,300 per kilo.

The customer became even more obnoxious and berated the shopkeeper telling him that he would pay according to the official price list. He added that he was a magistrate at the deputy commissioner office and would pay only Rs800 per kg. I felt offended that not only had this person jumped the line but was now browbeating the meat seller by misusing his official position.

I said loudly this was the first time that I had seen a magistrate walk into a butcher`s shop without any minions and ask for meat.
