Indus erosion displaces people.

LAYYAH -- Erosion in the river Indus has wreaked havoc in two riverine areas of the district.

In Union Council Warrah Seharan of Karor tehsil, the river erosion started in late 2017 and till now it has engulfed 6,800 acres of fertile agro land. Normally each season sees water level rise and gain a steady stream as a result of which land erosion stops.

Curiously, this season despite the rising waters the erosion has not stopped. The river has now engulfed centuries-old localities of Mamda Totanwala, Basti Dhill, Rakhwan and Warrah Seharan.

In Layyah, riverine Union Council of Paharpur has been affected by the erosion with Bait Kalru and Bait Gujjiwala the most affected areas. The affected people are dismantling their houses and carrying any usable items along with their belongings on their own.

Muhammad Aslam, a resident of Basti Rakhwan, is in distress.
