Inclusion of daily wagers in EOBI scheme demanded.

KARAK -- The United Workers Association has demanded of the government to make legislation for inclusion of daily wagers in the pension scheme of Employees Old Age Benefits Institution (EOBI).

The demand came in a meeting of the association here on Sunday. General secretary of the association, Gul Janan Khattak, said that PM's special assistant on oversees Pakistanis, Zulfi Bukhari, had promised with the workers that the daily wagers would be included in the EOBI's pension scheme. They demanded of the government to make proper legislation for the workers' inclusion in this regard.

The workers' leader said that in the current circumstances the daily wagers were passing through a most difficult time. He said that uplift projects had stopped in the country and there was no chance for daily-wage labourers to earn livelihood.

Mr Khattak claimed that they were facing starvation-like situation, complaining that there was no welfare programme with the government for the poor segment of the society. However, he welcomed the decision of the federal government to increase the wages of the workers and demanded its early implementation.
