In a first for Sindh, LUH performs oral cancer surgery.

HYDERABAD -- A professor of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) has performed surgery on a patient of oral cancer at Liaquat University Hospital's (LUH) Hyderabad city branch, the first ever operation in a public sector hospital in the province.

Prof Dr Kashif Ali Channar, chairman of the department of maxillofacial surgery, operated upon 22-year-old Imran, a resident of Tando Adam, and declared him cancer free after excision of a tumour on Thursday, according to LUH medical superintendent Dr Mubashir Ali Kolachi.

Dr Kolachi told Dawn on Friday that Imran had lost all hope of survival but the LUMHS team succeeded to save his life by performing the surgery, which lasted for 10 hours.
