Ilyas for implementation of hygiene rules in AJK.

MUZAFFARABAD -- As part of his consistent campaign Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas stressed the need for strict implementation of hygiene rules and sanitation standards in slaughterhouses and eateries to mitigate risks to public health, a statement issued by his office said.

'Every year, we have to spend a huge amount of money on curative treatment because of the absence of a strategy for preventive treatment,' the premier observed, adding that unadulterated food items and lack of cleanliness were two main areas to be dealt with rigorously by all officials and authorities.

The designated representatives of civic bodies, particularly the veterinary doctors, should be present in butcheries to forestall the slaughter of sick animals or sale of unstamped meat in the markets, he said.

Regarding cleanliness, the PM urged the administration to achieve its target in close coordination with the representatives of traders' bodies and notables of each neighbourhood.
