IHC raises serious questions over new social media rules.

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed PTA to keep in view Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) objections on social media rules in a case pertaining to rules framed by the government in connection with social media.

The case was heard by Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Athar Minallah on Friday.

The CJ IHC while expressing displeasure over Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) stopped its counsel from giving example of India which has gagged the freedom of expression.

The CJ IHC remarked don make mention of India here.

We are very clear that basic rights are not violated if India is doing wrong then should we too start doing wrong.

He further remarked who allowed to frame such rules and what authority approved them.

If criticism is discouraged due to social media rules then this will be discouragement of accountability.

Criticism should be encouraged and not to be discouraged.

No one is above law and criticism.PTA...
