Housing society's office sealed over default.

BAHAWALPUR -- The Saddar Tehsil Council sealed the office of the secretary of the Government Employees Cooperative Housing Society on Thursday for defaulting on millions of the previous years as the fees for the approval of the houses' maps.

According to the council administrator, the private housing society registered under the Cooperative Societies Act was established around 1999.

The society allotted hundreds of residential plots to government servants at village 7/BC in front of the Baghdadul Jadid campus of the Islamia University. Several houses have also been built there. The society did not pay map fees of these houses to the tehsil council (formerly district council).

The then district council whose assets are now with the tehsil council, started serving notices with effect from 2018 for the payment of map fees' amounting to Rs30 million in addition to the payment for 1,117 kanals acquired for the construction of roads, parks and others amounting (according to government schedule while according to market rates it may exceed to billions) to Rs900m.

In this respect, several notices were served on the society and the last notice was served in September, 2019, with a warning to pay the arrears within a week, which also expired and the tehsil council sealed society's office with a warning that no...
