Heavy rain damages crops in Karak, Dera.

KARAK/DI KHAN -- Heavy downpour on Sunday damaged standing crops in parts of Karak and Dera Ismail Khan districts, besides disrupting electricity supply.

Heavy rain coupled with hailstorm lashed Isak Chountra, Biland Kala, Talabkhel, Zebi, Sirajkhel, Topi Kala and others areas in Karak and Takht-i-Nusrati tehsils, damaging crops of wheat, gram, vegetables and fruit orchards. Flash floods caused by heavy rain also damaged banks of some seasonal water channels.

The local farmers demanded of the government to declare the area as calamity-hit and pay compensation to them for the losses.

The farmer association's general secretary Gulzar Khan said wheat crop had also suffered extensive damage.
