Growers demand Rs350 per kg minimum price for tobacco.

SWABI -- Growers at a convention here on Friday unanimously demanded that the minimum price of tobacco crop should be fixed at Rs350 per kilogramme and rejected the rate of Rs245 per kg announced by the government.

The convention was held in Yar Hussain here under the Kisan Board, a farmers' wing of Jamaat-i-Islami.

The participants said that the federal government received annual revenue of Rs130 billion through different taxes on tobacco, of which it should allocate Rs10 billion for the welfare of farmers in the tobacco growing districts.
