'Govt taking steps to eliminate smog for good'.

LAHORE -- The Punjab government is taking concrete measures to eliminate smog once and for all, claimed Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

'A Korean company in Pakistan has come up with a plan to eliminate smog in Punjab,' Mr Elahi said while addressing the first 'Environmental Conference' held under the auspices of the PML-Q here on Friday.

Punjab Environment Minister Bao Muhammad Rizwan, Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency President Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, Muslim League Rapid Wing leader Rizwan Mumtaz Ali and former senator Kamil Ali Agha were also present on the occasion.

Mr Elahi said according to the Korean company's plan, farmers would not need to burn leftover crop. 'This company will compensate the farmers for not burning the crop leftovers. It will remove them from the fields and produce gas with them which will be very cheap for domestic and industrial use and also be 100 per cent environment...
