Govt's decision to withdraw Riba appeals appreciated; Friday observed as 'Thanksgiving Day'.

PESHAWAR -- On the appeal of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the day of Friday was observed as 'Thanksgiving Day' across the country after the federal government's decision to withdraw all appeals of the State Bank of Pakistan and National Bank of Pakistan against verdicts of Federal Shariat court regarding interest free banking system in the country.

The Ulemas and JUIF leadership appreciated the government's decision and appealed to convince the private banks to also withdraw their applications regarding interest, adding that it was the first step by the government towards interest-free economic system and banking.

JUIF Deputy Secretary General Maulana Muhammad Amjad Khan addressing a Jumma sermon said that it was a positive step of the government against interest based banking, adding that JUIF always was a vocal supporter of true Islamic economic system in the country.

He said the efforts of JUI-F and other Ulemas for interest-free economy was not a secrete and more serious efforts are needed to get rid of the interest-based economy.
