Govt failure to tackle locust attack flayed.

KARAK -- Farmers here have criticised the provincial government for its failure to devise a strategy in four months to tackle the locust attack.

Talking to mediapersons, local farmers, including its district president Iqbal Khattak, claimed that over last few weeks locusts had damaged standing crops, fruit orchards and forests in the district.

The farmers said that the locust-affected areas included Kandokhel, Lawagher Chanikhel, Zarakhel, Ghundi Mir Khan, Deli Mela, Nari Eidalkhel and parts of Takht-i-Nusrati.

They recalled that the provincial government had announced emergency against locust attack on January 28, but agriculture minister Mohibullah was given briefing on the locust attack only the other day.

The farmers demanded of the government to conduct spray in the affected areas on emergency basis to protect crops from further damage.
