'Govt, ECP refusal to hold polls against Constitution'.

LAHORE -- Jamaat-i-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq has said the refusal of the government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to accept the Supreme Court decision of holding elections in Punjab is a violation of the Constitution.

The consequences of the situation could be dangerous, he warned, while addressing a press conference at Mansoora on Saturday.

He advised the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the PTI to agree upon a ceasefire and asked all the stakeholders to sit together to develop a consensus on the national polls, adding the fight between the two sides was leading the county towards another martial law.

He said the people must be given a chance to elect their representatives in a free and fair manner. He condemned the Punjab caretaker government for what he called creating hurdles in the way of the PTI's rally at the Minar-i-Pakistan, saying the interim setup had virtually become a part of the PDM government. Every political party, he said, had the right to hold peaceful rallies.

To a question, the JI emir said if the former premier Imran Khan or any other political leader was not feeling safe in their homes, they could live at Mansoorah which was a peaceful place. The JI chief said the fight between the PDM and the PTI had pushed the country into a blind alley.
