Govt committed to facilitating farmers: Tareen.

LAHORE -- Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf senior leader Jahangir Tareen has said the government is committed to streamlining middlemen and market committee system to facilitate farmers.

He said five new markets would be established in Punjab.

He said this while speaking to the media after attending a meeting of all stakeholders held to overview ongoing projects under the Punjab Agriculture Markets Regulatory Authority Act and Prime Minister's Agricultural Emergency Programme at Agriculture House on Saturday.

Mr Tareen said separate markets of fruits, green zones, cotton, fisheries, vegetables, sugar, jaggery and other commodities would be established across the province to create a healthy competitive trend among the farmers. Under the Pamra Act, he said, farmers could also sell agricultural commodities directly to consumers, which would help limit the role of the middleman.
