Govt committed to ensure essential commodities at affordable prices Dr Firdous.

LAHORE -- Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the government is committed to ensuring the provision of essential commodities at affordable prices, adding that Ramazan Sahulat Bazaars have been set up to provide maximum relief to the people.

She said this while talking to the media during her visit to Ramazan Bazaar Barkat Market Garden Town here on Tuesday.

Dr Firdous said the purpose behind visiting Ramazan Bazaars was to ensure the availability, quality and prices of essential commodities to the citizens. She said the CM has directed all the Cabinet Ministers to visit Ramazan Bazaars in their respective districts to ensure the subsidy being given to the people in Ramazan bazaars.

The Special Assistant said that 1,201 Price Control Magistrates are performing their duties to monitor the supply and demand, price and quality of essential commodities during Ramazan.

Detailing the government's measures taken to ensure adequate food supplies at Ramazan Bazaars, she said: 'On May 3rd, the Magistrates conducted 12,450 inspections. These inspections revealed 1,924 overcharging, hoarding and other violations on which 89 cases were registered and 68 persons were arrested. A fine of Rs2,974,053 was imposed on the violators whereas 1,522 inspections were carried out to check the scales, while, 19 violations were found and legal action was taken against them. Similarly, 29 raids were conducted against the hoarders and 480 sugar bags and 82,818 flour bags were recovered from them'.
