Govt asked to enforce integrated syllabus in schools.

TIMERGARA -- Lower Dir district education officer Ghulam Nabi Khan on Tuesday said the government should enforce an integrated syllabus and a uniform medium of instruction either in English or Urdu in all public and private schools.

He was addressing a function after inaugurating four additional classrooms at government high school, Osakai.

The additional rooms have been built by philanthropist Haji Ameer Naushad at a cost of Rs4.2 million. The schools' heads, teachers, students and area elders attended the function.

DEO Ghulam Nabi said students were overburdened with unnecessary course books. He said the government should enforce a single-book integrated syllabus and a uniform medium of instruction either in English or Urdu.

The education officer asked the schools' heads to concentrate on provision of quality education to students. He said the students too should focus on specialisation in a particular field. The DEO said Pakhtun students had great potential in every field but they needed proper counseling and guidance.

On the occasion, philanthropist Mr Naushad announced to construct more classrooms at the school without government's support on need basis.

He said he got his preliminary education at the school when it was made up of mud and stones.
