Governmental Meeting Resolves Around 20 Issues

Government officials discussed and resolved some 20 issues in its meeting held last Saturday.

Tobacco production, import, and service to be controlled

The ordinance on tobacco control regulates the production, import, sale, and service of tobacco, and includes the specific arrangement between the entities which serve tobacco and the organization which will supervise it. Moreover, the demands which will be imposed on tobacco production, import, sale, and service emerged in the meeting.

For instance, according to the ordinance, cigarettes should not be placed by the cash registers of sales stores and supermarkets since they must only be in a special counter. The sale of tobacco is forbidden within 500 meters of secondary general education schools and dormitories.

Furthermore, in compliance with the ordinance, the sale of cigarettes is prohibited at public event places such as for celebrations, ceremonies, sports competitions, and concerts. The retail sale of cigarettes in streets and through delivery methods is also not allowed.

The participation of the public is significant in implementing the ordinance to control the production, sale, import, and service of tobacco. Accordingly, the hotline, which will receive criticisms, complaints, and requests regarding violations of the tobacco control ordinance, will become operational.

Results of Ministerial Conference of CD praised

State officials in the meeting also discussed and praised the results of the 7th Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies held from April 27 to 29 in Ulaanbaatar. They agreed with the decision to express gratitude to government organizations, officials, private sectors, and volunteers, who made an effort in and contributed to organizing the conference.

A decision was also made to erect the International Conference Complex in order to make Ulaanbaatar one of the centers of international events. Another aim is to establish it as a center to exchange experiences in the preparation of international observers during the upcoming presidential election with the support of international communities. Eventually, an institution will be launched which will support democracy in Mongolia.
