GCU begins biometric attendance for Inter classes.

LAHORE -- The Government College University (GCU) on Tuesday introduced biometric attendance system on a trial basis for intermediate students.

GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi held meeting with faculty of intermediate studies at the University's Faiz Seminar Hall. The GCU faculty deans and director of the intermediate studies were also present.

Mr Zaidi also formed a five-member oversight committee to ensure quality of education and minimum 75 percent of attendance of students as per the regulations of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore.

He said that in pursuit of excellence in research and higher studies, the GCU Lahore would wish to retain its focus on its intermediate section where it received only top merit students from all over Pakistan.

He announced starting intermediate admissions for girls very soon and directed the intermediate studies director to ensure the effective engagement of intermediate students on the campus in the awareness, co-curricular and sports activities. He said the character-building and personality development of students was equally important.

Mr Zaidi said that a biometric attendance system was introduced on trial basis in an English class and it would be expanded in phases to all classes of intermediate. He directed the teachers to start a monthly test system for the final exams preparations.

Later, the VC also listened to the problems of the teachers of intermediate classes and issued necessary orders for their redressal.

SEMINAR: The National College of Arts Lahore, in collaboration with the deputy commissioner office, Drug Advisory Training Hub (DATH) and Colombo Plan organised a seminar on 'Let's Start Dialogue on Drug Use Prevention' to highlight drug abuse and illicit trafficking and its impact on society.

Anti-Drugs Narcotics Campaign Consultant Syed Zulfiqar Hussain, Adviser to Colombo Plan Muhammad Ayub, Deputy Registrar Shahzad Tanveer, Malik Dr Masood Ahmed and Prof Shahnaz Malih highlighted several causes observed in the young generations who get subjected to drug addiction. They proposed self-believe, self-control, reduction in communication gaps, strong family bonding, self-awareness and engagement in healthy activities as workable ways to counter drug inclination.

They said main reasons behind drug inclination included depression, peer pressure, unintentional dependency of medicines, lack of self-control, and to enhance performance.NCA Principal Prof Dr Murtaza...
