GB exempts teachers from non-educational duties.

GILGIT -- The Gilgit-Baltistan government has imposed a ban on government teachers' engagement in activities that are not related to academics.

As per a directive, teachers' attention is often divided between their core professional responsibilities and other activities, including census enlistment, election duties, awareness programmes and data collection for different purposes.

The directive, issued by GB Chief Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, stated that teachers are the pinnacle of social change in any given society. It is the teacher who is instrumental in transferring knowledge and skills to other teachers and students.

This, it added, would only be possible when teachers are fully committed to their profession.

Their core purpose is to provide the best learning opportunities to students and prepare for an unseen future.

To perform all this, teachers need to have time, peace of mind and strength.

In Pakistan, unfortunately our education system is based on memorisation and teachers are regarded as the easiest access to engage in any activity other than learning.
