LAHORE -- A westerly wave gave rain in upper parts of the country and northeast Punjab, also generating a thunderstorm in Lahore that pushed back smog causing pollution penetrating its border areas because of burning of crop residue in the Indian Punjab.

Dark clouds that gave light rain and gusty winds nevertheless brought chill in the air.

The westerly wave is affecting upper and central parts of the country and likely to persist till the next 24 hours.

The Met department said day and night temperatures are likely to fall further by two to four degrees C from Saturday in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, upper and central Balochistan, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.

It reported rain-wind/thunderstorm at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Hazara, Malakand, Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan and Kashmir, while at isolated places in Gilgit Baltistan.
