A DECISION to replace English with Urdu, as a compulsory subject from 1952, has been arrived at by the Consultative Committee for framing the new matriculation course of study for the University of Sind... . Sind schools are accordingly expected to make Urdu a compulsory subject in their very first standards from the academic year 1948-49.

The matriculation examinations, however, will provide two alternative Urdu courses; one, a fairly stiff one for those whose mother tongue is Urdu, and another, an elementary one for non-Urdu speaking candidates. Religious knowledge is recommended by the Committee as a compulsory subject, the followers of different religions being given instructions in schools in their own religions.
