Fresh attack by swarm of locusts.

BAHAWALPUR -- Swarms of locusts once again attacked not only areas of Cholistan desert, but also agricultural fields and populated areas around the desert on the border of Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan districts.

The areas that came under the heavy attack included Head Farid, Bhatta Sheikhan, villages 266-1-L, 265 -1-L,123-1-14L, 254-1-L, 146-DNB,147-DNB and Sorian in Yazman tehsil.

The return of the locusts to the districts and cultivated parts came as a surprise to the public, particularly the farming community, after the tall claims of the government departments and functionaries about two months ago that the swarms were on their last move on their way to Iran and other cold areas via Lasbela in Balochistan.

The federal plant protection department and the Punjab agriculture department had claimed last month that the locusts were attacking the city and other districts, which fell on their migration route to Balochistan from where they would fly back to their countries of origin.
