Four tribesmen freed after protest in Landi Kotal.

LANDI KOTAL -- Security officials here on Thursday ordered release of four local tribesmen after a protest sit-in at Landi Kotal Bazaar.

Security forces had arrested 12 Pasedkhel tribesmen on December 19 during a search operation after a soldier was killed in a landmine blast near the Pak-Afghan border.

One of the arrested young men, Khatir Khan, died in mysterious conditions during custody of security forces at Charbagh Fort on December 23.

The protesters demanded an inquiry into Khatir's death and release of rest of the Pasedkhel residents. The protest was later ended with an official assurance about release of the arrested men.
