Four held for 'thrashing' policemen.

BAHAWALNAGAR -- Chishtian Saddar police on Saturday arrested four people and registered a case against 28 a day after they were booked for thrashing a police team during an attempt to occupy a piece of land at Chak-11 Gajyani.

According to the first information report (FIR), 28 people, including nine women identified as Zahida, Siddiqa, Samina, Sheeman, Zulekhan, Sughran, Sumaira, Safiya, Ghulam Aisha, beat five policemen with batons when they went to inspect a crime scene. When police reached the site and asked the people to stop their activity, the enraged people attacked it and hit SI Muneeb, ASIs Saeed and Sabir Muneer and constables Azhar and Asif with batons and butts of guns.

The families of the suspects accused police of implicating them in a fake case at the behest of their rivals. They demanded the IGP launch an inquiry.
