Flyover over level crossing proposed.

GUJRAT -- Construction of a flyover has been proposed over the railway tracks at Saeen Raja level crossing to connect the GT Road with the bypass as traffic often remains jammed at the city's main entry and exit points.

The proposal has been made the part of plans to make the GT Road, from Rehmania Bridge to the Kathala Chenab, a signal-free corridor.

According to official sources, the total estimated cost of the signal-free corridor is around Rs3bn, about half of which would be spent on the construction of the flyover. The need of the flyover is badly felt in view of the city's expansion towards the bypass as scores of trade and industry centres as well as the housing schemes have been shifted near the bypass.

The sources say the project of signal-free corridor for the main artery of the city has been recommended by PML-Q MNA Chaudhry Moonis Elahi. The flyover, a long standing demand of the local business community, would also connect the urban and rural parts of the city.

Since shifting of the city's fruit and vegetable market to the GT Road bypass more than three years ago, the flow of traffic at the Saeen Raja railway crossing has increased manifold whereas the offices of Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GtCCI) as well as of a number of furniture, fan and other...
