Flood-hit farmers get free wheat seed.

LOWER DIR -- With the financial assistance of the World Bank, the agriculture department distributed 2,500 bags of wheat seed among 1,476 flood-affected farmers of Lower Dir during a function held at the Timergara model farm services centre here on Thursday.

Additional deputy commissioner Abdul Wali Khan was chief guest at the function attended by district agriculture officer Mohammad Sadique, MPA Shafiullah Khan's adviser Kashif Kamal, tehsildar Mazharuddin, and local farmers.

Farmers from different parts of the district got the wheat seed bags distributed free of cost under the World Bank programme. The beneficiaries thanked the WB and the local administration for the assistance and said it would help them grow more wheat.

The agriculture officers told mediapersons that the recent floods had destroyed standing crops over a vast area.

POLITICAL STABILITY SOUGHT: Dir Chamber of Commerce and Industry and traders have urged the political leaders to shun their differences and get united to steer the country out of the current turmoil.
