Fisheries officials 'facilitating illegal trawling' suspended.

QUETTA -- The provincial fisheries department has suspended its senior officials and other staff for allegedly facilitating illegal trawling in Balochistan waters and ordered an inquiry against them.

According to officials, Fisheries Secretary Kazim Jatoi has directed the authorities concerned to initiate a probe into massive corruption and involvement of the department's senior officials posted at the Gwadar coastline in the illegal act.

'An assistant director, three fisheries inspectors and some other staff have been suspended with immediate effect after receiving credible information about their involvement in facilitating illegal trawling in Balochistan waters,' a senior official of the fisheries department told Dawn on Friday.
