Firdous hints at legal reforms.

LAHORE -- Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has acknowledged that there are gaps in the existing prosecution system that's why 'thieves' are wearing garlands, which is tantamount to slaps in the face of the law.

Responding to a question about the release of PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz on Saturday, Dr Awan said strengthening the prosecution system was a big challenge and the government was heading towards legal reforms.

'It is a national requirement and the incumbent government's duty to reform the 73-year old outdated judicial system,' she added.

The SACM also said the case of corruption, money laundering and illegal assets against Hamza had not ended but bail had been granted on a 'hardship basis'.

Ms Awan, flanked by Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR) Babar Hayat Tarar, said the law had become subservient to political parties and some influential families.

'Now, the law will be liberated from the political parties and few influential families and the institutions will be made powerful to lead Pakistan to the path of progress,' she declared and added the corrupt system would soon be reformed.
